The Weight of Things
Last week I spent a day in someone’s home, helping them get a handle on a mountain of belongings. So many beautiful things—well-made, useful… but buried. Lost under the weight of accumulation, of holding on just in case. We didn’t throw away much, but we made space. We made things visible. Clothes that hadn’t been seen in a long time were now easy to reach again.
Sometimes letting go starts with seeing what’s really there.
And yet I left with a strange feeling—tired, a little defeated. I did what I promised, but I didn’t feel the usual satisfaction. Because what I came face to face with was something deeper: how tightly we hold on. How hard it is to let go.
When I got home, I watched the sunset from a rooftop. I gave away a few toys, a jumper, and some books. I felt the need to let go of even more. My own cupboards, my own storage spaces—what are they filled with? What stories am I still telling myself about what I might need, what I might use, what might come in handy… one day?
It’s not about minimalism. It’s about freedom. It’s about being able to see what we have, use what we love, and live in a space that supports who we are now—not who we used to be, or who we think we might become.
If you’re feeling the weight of too much stuff, I’m here to help you find space again. Not just in your home, but in your head and heart, too.
